Weather forces multiple changes for playoff basketball schedules
The weather event that forced the initial postponement of playoff basketball and wrestling events forced the games to be pushed back even further.
Originally, area tournament games for Class A and B and the regional games for Classes 2A-4A were slated last Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The initial round of postponements by the OSSAA pushed those games back to Friday, Saturday and Monday.
On Thursday of last week, the OSSAA opted again to further push back the games.
The tournaments began Saturday and are set to resume Monday and Tuesday.
This includes Lomega teams playing in a Class B area at Stroud; Okarche in a Class A area at Kellyville; Cashion hosting a 2A regional; Crescent in a 2A regional at Amber-Pocasset on Saturday and the remainder of it at Cashion; Hennessey hosting a 3A regional Saturday and the remainder of it at Perry; and Kingfisher hosting a 4A regional.
Also, originally, the Class A and B state tournaments were going to begin Tuesday and be played in their entirety at State Fair Arena.
The postponements have forced them back to the traditional Thursday-Friday-Saturday format with Mustang and Washington high schools serving as sub-sites.
The coaches’ meeting for the state tournaments will be held via Zoom on Wednesday morning, after which official schedules for the tournaments will be announced by the OSSAA.
Provided no more weather delays happen this week, the area tournaments for Classes 2A-4A will be held as scheduled beginning on Thursday.
Wrestling was less affected than basketball.
The state tournament for all classes remained Friday and Saturday at State Fair Arena with a condensed schedule.
The OSSAA has updated times for the state tournament as well as all basketball brackets on its website, www.ossaa.com.
