Doris Lea Cronkhite was born Thursday, Jan. 1, 1942, to Leroy Alexander and Iva Caroline (Randall) Townsend in Kingfisher.

She passed from this life on Monday, Feb. 14, 2022, in Seiling.

Doris grew up in Dover with her two siblings, Carolyn and Max. She graduated in 1960 from Dover High School.

Doris took accounting classes at South Oklahoma City Junior College, now OCCC, and held many bookkeeping and office management positions for grocery stores in Oklahoma City, Blair Farm Equipment in Kingfisher and Tyson Foods in Holdenville.

She also sold products for Home Interiors and Mary Kay cosmetics for many years. During her goal week in August 1987, Doris held 15 shows, serviced 88 guests, booked 12 future shows and achieved total sales of $5,117.07 for Home Interiors.

Doris married Larry Cronkhite on May 23, 1980.

They lived in Okarche for 10 years where she grew test roses for Jackson & Perkins Co.

They moved to Snyder for two years where she was an ag teacher’s wife, but did not enjoy driving the ag pickup pulling the stock trailer.

The couple then lived in the Calvin area for 14 years ranching and hunting.

The final move was to Chester in 2007, where she lived until her death.

Doris became a believer in Christ in 1981 at the First Baptist Church in Kingfisher and held on to her faith until her final breath. Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church of Seiling.

Doris is survived by her husband Larry of the home; three daughters, Kim Burns of Tonkawa, Kelly Jacobs and husband Steve of Okarche, and Kristi Hubbard of Hulbert. She is also survived by two stepsons, Greg Cronkhite of Kingfisher and Jeff Cronkhite and wife Rocio, also of Kingfisher.

Doris also leaves a sister, Carolyn Bradley and family of Perkins and brother Max Townsend and wife Ramona and family of Oklahoma City. Doris is also survived by eight grandchildren: Jennifer Burns and fiancé Kevin Miller of Tonkawa; Chancey Burns of Tonkawa; Nicole Crossley and husband Joe of Piedmont; Lindsey Jacobs of Piedmont; Blaine Hubbard and wife Alex of Fort Leonardwood, Mo.; Hope Baily and husband Harley of Hulbert; and Jewel and Taylor Cronkhite of Kingfisher.

Doris will be greatly missed by 14 great-grandchildren: Peyton, Malikai, Brooklyn, Carlee, Parker, Aniston, Jude, Ezra, Liam, Laura, Amelia, Claire, Maddie and Grayson.

Through the years, Doris enjoyed attending her kids’ and grandkids’ activities, ballgames, track meets and wrestling matches.

She enjoyed sewing (making all the girls formals), watching songbirds and squirrels from the breakfast table window, playing cards with family and friends at the Seiling Senior Citizens Center every other Monday, watching OKC Thunder basketball games and Arizona Cardinals football games. She had to cheer on her favorite player, Kyler Murray.

Doris will be remembered for sending countless greeting cards to family, friends and her church family.

She enjoyed her travels to many destinations across the United States, including Hawaii, Florida, California and Oregon, and also her trips to Canada and Mexico.

Finally, Doris very much enjoyed painting pictures to give to close friends and family.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Iva Townsend; brother-in law, Arlen Bradley; son-in-law, John Burns; and her dear loving Bichon Frise of 17 years, Lucy.
