Kamas bags 2 more wins
Sophomore leads team to solid finishes in El Reno, OKC
Chalk up wins No. 4 and 5 for Kingfisher’s Maddi Kamas.
The KHS sophomore picked up two more medalist honors in the past week as she continues to be the hottest girls golfer in Oklahoma.
On Monday, Kamas shot a 72 at Lincoln West Golf Course to win the Putnam City North Invitational/5A State Preview.
Her round helped her hold off Edmond Memorial’s Lilly Whitley by one stroke.
Whitley was among the top-15 golfers in last year’s 6A state tournament.
It was three strokes better than Durant’s Blayne Baker, one of the top 5A golfers, and Piedmont’s Hannah Torres.
KHS placed fifth out of 15 teams.
Memorial won it with a 321 and Durant was runner-up with a 338.
Edmond North’s JV shot a 357 and Norman North a 365.
KHS shot a 377.
Sierra Townsend came in with a 94 while Kari Shepard shot 104.
Alexis Stitt finished at 107 and Olivia Wilcox 117.
The Lady Jackets were third as a team in cold, blustery conditions last Thursday at the El Reno Invitational at Crimson Creek Golf Course.
Stitt recorded her first eagle in high school competition on the par-4 first hole with a chip-in.
She eventually shot a 94.
Townsend fired a 107, Willcox a 112 and Shepard a 122.
Meanwhile, Kamas topped the field with her six-over-par 78.
Kingfisher’s score was 391, which placed it behind Noble (368) and Ardmore (376).
Carl Albert was one stroke behind KHS. Fourteen schools competed overall.
