Wrestling postseason starts next week for 3 local teams
A host of teams will be competing this weekend in the dual state wrestling championships to begin a three-week run to end the season.
No local teams will be a part of dual state, but they will participate in next week’s regional tournaments and - depending on their performances - at state the next week.
Regional tournaments are Feb. 14-15 for girls and then Feb. 18-19 for boys teams.
Female wrestlers for Kingfisher and Cashion will be a part of the western regional at Noble High School.
Also taking part in the regional will be Anadarko, Ardmore, Bethel, Cache, Carl Albert, Chickasha, Choctaw, Comanche, Davis, Del City, Douglass, Durant, Edmond North, Edmond Santa Fe, Eisenhower, El Reno, Elgin, Elk City, Guthrie, Harrah, Hinton, Hobart, Lawton, Lexington, Little Axe, MacArthur, Madill, Marlow, Midwest City, Moore, Mustang, Newcastle, Noble, Norman, Norman North, NW Classen, Pathways, Pauls Valley, Piedmont, Plainview, Purcell, Putnam City, Putnam City North, Putnam City West, Santa Fe South, Shawnee, Southeast, Southmoore, Sulphur, Tecumseh, Tuttle, US Grant, Watonga, Weatherford, Western Heights, Westmoore, Woodward and Yukon.
There is only one current classification for girls wrestlers.
Kingfisher, Cashion and Hennessey boys wrestlers are in the 3A western regional at Plainview High School.
They’ll be joined by Anadarko, Bethel, Blackwell, Christian Heritage, Comanche, Community Christian, Cordell, Cross ings Christian, Davis/Mill Creek, Douglass, Geary, Hinton, Hobart, Lexington, Little Axe, Mangum, Marlow, Oklahoma Christian School, Pathways, Pauls Valley, Pawnee/Hominy, Perry, Plainview, Sulphur, Temple, Tonkawa, Watonga and Wilburton/ Moyers.
For both boys and girls, the top-five placers in each weight class will advance to state.
The state tournament - for both male and female wrestlers - is Feb. 25-26 at State Fair Arena in Oklahoma City.
