Dover wins big down south
Boys, girls teams grab lopsided victories at Ninnekah
Dover took a trip down south to try to reverse its basketball fortunes.
It worked.
The Longhorns halted a five-game skid Friday with a 55-20 win at Ninnekah.
Their first-quarter output was nearly enough as they got out to a 19-4 advantage and continued to increase it.
The early start was spurred by Kolten Shaw and Emory Norton.
The former worked the inside and scored nine points in the first.
The latter buried two treys and scored eight in the frame.
Dover knocked down six treys as a team, three of them by Damion Turner in the second and third quarters as Dover’s lead increased to 46-14.
Turner finished with 12 points.
Norton scored 14 while Shaw matched Ninnekah’s total with 20 points of his own.
The Longhorns pushed their record to 8-15 with the win.
Lady Longhorns bounce back from Canton loss
Three nights after one of their worst offensive performances of the season, the Dover girls delivered one of their best.
Dover matched its season high scoring total Friday with a 72-42 win at Ninnekah. Dover also scored 72 in its season opener back in November.
Last Tuesday, the Lady Longhorns netted just 25 points while being doubled up by Canton.
Against Ninnekah, Dover scored 27 in the second quarter alone and then 25 again in the third.
That was after already leading 14-4 after the first quarter.
Dover was up 66-25 after three quarters.
Katelyn Harviston did most of her 23-point damage in the first and third quarters.
She scored 21 of her points in those two frames.
Karlee McNulty scored all 16 of her points in the second and third quarters.
Rylee Buck added 10 more points while Kamree McNulty scored eight.
The Lady Longhorns improved their season record to 16-7 with the win.
They wrap up their regular season this week with home games against Aline-Cleo and Pioneer-Pleasant Vale.
