Varnum comeback bests Cashion girls
Cashion’s girls settled for sixth place in the County Line Tournament.
The Lady Wildcats fell 50-47 to Varnum in Saturday’s consolation championship.
Lauren Lamb’s 3-pointer with 3:18 to play gave Cashion a 47-40 advantage, but Cashion didn’t score again.
Varnum’s Mindy Wildcat put the Lady Whippets on top with a driving bucket with 26 seconds left.
After Cashion was called for a charge on the other end, Wildcat’s two free throws made it a threepoint game.
Lauren Jenkins got a solid look from the top of the key, but the shot fell short as the final horn sounded.
Cashion scored the game’s first seven points and led 32-14 at halftime, but was outscored 36-15 in the second half.
Lamb led Cashion with 22 points while Jenkins scored 10.
Wildcat paced Varnum with 26 points.
Cashion got its win Friday by toppling Fairview 37-23 in the consolation semifinals.
Another hot start saw the Lady Wildcats lead 10-2 after a quarter.
Lamb scored 12 points to lead all scorers.
