‘Cats win 5th straight
Cashion carried over its momentum from the Three Rivers Conference Tournament into last week.
The Wildcats won their fifth straight game by knocking off Class A’s 12th-ranked Seiling 53-43 at home.
Cashion took a 15-point halftime lead and pushed it to 16 before Seiling closed the gap in the fourth quarter.
The visiting Wildcats had no answer for Landon LaGasse, who posted 13 points and 15 rebounds.
His rebound total was just one less than the entire Seiling team as Cashion won the overall battle 31-16.
LaGasse was one of three Wildcats to score in double figures.
Austin Frazier led the way with 16 points while Vance Raney poured in 13.
Raney made all three of Cashion’s 3-pointers for the game.
Cashion is still without starting point guard Jonah Jenkins.
The senior suffered a shoulder injury in the tournament semifinals and is expected to be out about two weeks.
Trey Tichenor helped fill his role.
The fellow senior led Cashion with five assists and didn’t have a turnover. He also scored four points.
Seiling girls overpower Cashion
Seiling showed up in the form of a buzzsaw for the girls game.
Class A’s third-ranked team kept up its recent torrid scoring pace with a 94-35 win against Cashion.
The win was the sixth in a row for Seiling as it moved to 10-2. During that win streak, the Lady Wildcats have scored at least 74 points in every game.
Cashion “held” Seiling to 17 points in the first quarter, but the visitors scored at least 24 points in each of the final three frames.
Isabella Hammons scored 17 to lead four Seiling players in double figures.
Cashion was led by Lauren Lamb’s 10 points.
Cashion dropped to 3-6 with the loss.
