Jackets crown king and queen, honor seniors before dropping dual to Hinton

There were about four events wrapped into one during Kingfisher’s home wrestling dual last week.
When KHS hosted Hinton Tuesday at the APB, it served as the 2020-21 season opener, home opener, Senior Night and homecoming all in one.
On the mat, the Jackets were able to wrestle in just one of the five final weight classes and ultimately fell to the Comets, 44-24.
Prior to the dual, the program honored its four seniors and their parents.
The seniors - Kole Lambert, Presten Coughlan, Brady Friesen and Kaden Miller - were also part of the homecoming coronation prior to the action.
Coughlan was named the homecoming king and Sara De la Torre the queen in that coronation.
Coughlan then followed that up with a fall just 51 seconds into his 145-pound match.
That gave KHS an 18-17 lead in the dual.
The teams traded forfeits over the next two weights as the Comets got six points at 152, but the Jackets got them back when Isaac Long’s hand was raised at 160.
That gave the Jackets a 24-23 lead, but they didn’t score again.
Kingfisher forfeited at 170 and 195 and Hinton won by fall at 182.
Neither team put a wrestler on the mat at 220 before Matt McCain outlasted the Jackets’ Braxton Shellstrom 4-2 at heavyweight.
KHS opened the dual with a forfeit win at 113 (neither team wrestled at 106) before the Comets earned a fall and technical fall at 120 and 126, respectively, to take an 11-6 advantage.
Lambert made quick work of Hinton’s Samuel Reyes at 132, earning a fall in just 46 seconds to give the jackets a 12-11 advantage.
Hinton got a forfeit victory at 138 before Coughlan’s match.
