WHITE’S NIGHT
It was Logan White’s night.
The Okarche freshman scored a career-high 21 points Saturday to lead the Lady Warriors to a 50-38 win at home against Cherokee in their Class A district championship game.
White scored 15 points in the second half, which is also when Okarche broke open a tie game to outscore the Lady Chiefs by 12.
“The potential has been there,” said coach Brett Tahah of the 5-foot-11 center, noting that White has averaged close to 20 points in Okarche’s junior high games this season.
“She just went off on Saturday.”
White was 10 of 11 from the field and made her lone free throw.
That free throw closed out a three-point play in the fourth quarter when she scored nine points and Okarche outscored Cherokee 16-7.
The Lady Warriors held Cherokee to just four field goals in the second half, cutting in half the Lady Chiefs’ first-half production.
White had four field goals in the fourth by herself.
Okarche also got a big 3-pointer and a pair of free throws from Katie Parham in the final frame.
Parham made five 3-pointers overall and finished with 17.
She made two of her treys and scored all but one of Okarche’s points in the first quarter when the Lady Warriors fell behind 12-7.
They tied it up by halftime as White scored six points.
She added six more in the third as the Lady Warriors staked their threepoint lead going into the fourth.
Cherokee didn’t have a player in double figures. Chesney Berry and Naomi Heim scored nine apiece. They combined for just two points in the fourth.
