West to enter OBCA Hall of Fame

The late Ray West is one of five coaches who will be inducted into this year’s class of the Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

West will be joined by Larry Callison, Dan Hays, David Page and Bob Weckstein, who is also a former Okarche coach.

The five, who have combined for more than 3,800 victories, will be inducted during a June 5 luncheon in Edmond.

West coached 45 years and had an 853-391 career record before passing away in August 2019.

His win total was second all-time among Oklahoma boys basketball coaches.

West’s final 25 years were spent at Okarche where he amassed a 554-182 record, took the Warriors to 11 state tournaments and two state title games.

Other coaching stops included Fort Supply (1974- 76), Gould (1976-77), Purcell (1977-78), Mountain View (1978-81), Mustang (1981-82) and Cordell (1982-94).

He won a number of coaching honors including being named the 2012 National High School Athletic Coaches Association Coach of the Year.

West will also be inducted into Oklahoma Coaches Association Hall of Fame in Tulsa in July.

The 2021 class brings the total of honorees to 115.
