There was no big upset in the Class 4A boys basketball regional last Saturday at the APB.

But that doesn’t mean the Jackets aren’t moving on in these playoffs.

Top-ranked Weatherford put the clamps on Kingfisher’s offense and steadily pulled away for a 62-21 victory.

That gave the Eagles (27-1) a regional title and advanced them to this week’s area championship game where they’ll play No. 10 Fort Gibson for the right to advance to state.

The Jackets, meanwhile, are back in the area tournament after a oneyear hiatus.

They drop to the consolation bracket and will play Inola at 2:30 p.m. in Stroud. The winner will advance to Friday’s consolation semifinal.

The Jackets managed to hold Weatherford to just 11 points in the first quarter. Unfortunately, the visitors still boasted a nine-point lead.

It got better offensively for the Jackets in the second quarter, but only slightly as they scored seven points.

That proved to be their best offensive quarter of the game.

Two-sport standout and University of Oklahoma signee C.J. Nickson came alive in the second quarter.

He scored nine points as the Eagles extended their lead to 26-9.

He added six more in the third as the advantage continued to grow.

Weatherford was up 4014 after three quarters and outscored KHS 22-6 in the fourth.

Nickson led all scorers with 21 points.

Tate Sage added 13. Hayes White paced the Jackets with eight points. Paytun Burnham chipped in four.

The Jackets enter the area tournament with a 16-10 record.

Inola is 17-8. The Longhorns won the consolation championship in their regional by winning three straight elimination games. The last of those was 62-56 over Oologah-Talala.
