Versatility helps Cashion’s Green earn A-3 MVP honor
Brexten Green did a little bit of everything for Cashion during its historic run to the state title.
Now he’s got the first of what will likely be several postseason honors to show for it
Green was named the District A-3 most valuable player last week after a vote of its coaches.
The versatile senior not only helped lead Cashion to a district championship, but also a 16-0 overall record and the Class A state championship.
In doing so, Green led the team with 94 catches for 1,638 yards and 18 touchdowns.
He added 409 yards and six touchdowns rushing, both second best on the team. Green averaged 6.5 yards a carry
Also the team’s punter, though seldom used in that capacity, Green averaged 34.7 yards a boot.
On top of that, he was sixth on the team with 58 total tackles.
Green was just one of 15 Wildcats to earn all-district honors.
Joining him near the top of the list was fellow senior Caden Harrell, who was named the defensive player of the year.
On top of his 1,745 yards and 29 touchdowns rushing, Harrell was second on the team with 112 tackles, including 12 for a loss, while playing linebacker.
Eight Wildcats were named player of the year at their respective positions: Ben Harman at quarterback, Nick Nabavi at tight end, Mason Manning at receiver, Kyler George at offensive line, acob Farrow at inside linebacker, Landon LaGasse at cornerback, Gavin Phippen at safety and Lance Christensen at kicker.
Also named to the all-district team were Colton Southall and Joey Wilson at offensive line, Jackson Vandruff and Camden Maroney at defensive line, Justice Broadbent at linebacker and Max Brown in the secondary.
Crescent had three players make the list
Senior Hunter Wilmoth was tabbed the all-district quarterback while Cannon Bowers earned the honor at wide receiver and Jayce Phelan at offensive line.
The Tigers were 9-3 overall this season and 4-2 in the district, good for third place.
