Tigers no match for Cashion in ‘War on 74’
With each passing game, Ben Harman becomes a better quarterback.
That’s the summation of Cashion head coach Lynn Shackelford after his team’s 47-6 dismantling of Crescent on the road in last Friday night’s version of the “War on 74.”
Harman threw for 291 yards and three touchdowns in the second start of his career.
“He’s got a lot of tools,” Shackelford said of his sophomore quarterback, who is the younger brother of Cashion’s all-time leading passer Matt Harman.
“He just doesn’t have a lot of reps in a game yet.”
Almost all of Harman’s work came in the first half as Cashion built up a 40-0 lead, which led to a running second-half clock.
He was 13 of 19 without an interception.
Harman’s night was just part of an all-around dominant performance by Cash-ion, which improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in District A-3.
Senior Alex Nabavi scored Cashion’s final four touchdowns in three different ways.
He caught a 5-yard pass from Harman to make it 26-0 with 9:11 left in the first half.
He followed that up with a 4-yard scoring run five minutes later.
Nabavi ended the first half with a flourish as his acrobatic punt return went 88 yards for another score.
He capped off his night with a 2-yard run in the third quarter.
In all, he caught five passes for 72 yards and added 12 rushing yards.
Brexten Green contributed four receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown. He caught a 55-yard touchdown from Harman in the first quarter.
Sam Brown had a 51-yard TD reception in the first quarter.
Caden Harrell got Cash-ion’s scoring started with a 2-yard run in the first.
Cashion ran the ball just 19 times and netted 34 yards.
The Wildcats limited Crescent’s rushing attack to 71 yards on 34 attempts.
Dominic Descher, who scored Crescent’s only touchdown, had 73 yards on his 24 carries.
Trent Fisher led Crescent’s defense with six tackles. Cannon Bowers added five.
Crescent dropped to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the district.
Harrell had seven tackles for Cashion to lead a defense that surrendered only 99 total yards.
“The defense was good and I was glad to see our special teams make some plays,” Shackelford said. Cashion blocked a punt on top of the Nabavi’s punt return for a score.
“Ben threw it well and our receivers did a good job in space after we got them the ball,” Shackelford continued. “It was just a good all-around effort by our guys.”
