Tigers continue winning ways
Hunter Wilmoth did a lot on offense and his fair share on defense as Crescent racked up yet another win. The Tigers downed Oklahoma Christian Academy 22-8 in Edmond last Thursday night to move to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in District A-3. Wilmoth ran for 167 yards and a touchdown and added five tackles and an interception for the Tigers. Crescent built up a 14-0 lead before giving up a late second-quarter score to OCA. However, the Tiger defense shutout the hosts in the second half. OCA got nothing going on the ground as its 20 rushes netted 41 yards. The Tigers aided that total with 10 tackles for a loss, including four sacks. Tayon Johnson had four of those tackles for a loss and was in on two sacks. He collected six tackles total. Cannon Bowers had a team-high seven tackles. Tylan Neugent also had six tackles. The Tiger offense countered with another powerful ground attack. Fifty Crescent rush attempts turned into 303 yards. Wilmoth got the bulk of that work with 26 carries. He scored on an 11-yard run in the second quarter. C.J. Wilson’s 18-yard run less than six minutes later put the Tigers up 14-0. Luke Descher had the game’s only second-half score as he bulled in from four yards out in the fourth quarter. Descher ran 13 times total for 68 yards. Johnson added 43 yards on the ground and Wilson finished with 25. Crescent’s win has some on the outside noticing the Tigers’ season. The Oklahoman put Crescent at No. 10 in the Week 9 rankings. It’s the first time Crescent has been ranked this season. Their lone loss was a 21- 20 setback three weeks ago to No. 8 Tonkawa. Crescent hosts Hinton (1-5, 0-3) this week before capping its regular season at Cashion.
