Taylor earns 100th victory
Players aren’t the only ones reaching milestones in Cashion.
Days after recognizing Megan Shafer’s accomplishment of reaching 1,000 career points, coach Andrea Taylor grabbed her 100th career win.
It came last Friday night when the Lady Wildcats downed Watonga 50-32 on the road.
The victory came in Taylor’s sixth season as Cashion’s coach as her team improved to 16-8. It also spoiled the grand opening of Watonga’s brand-new facility.
The school had a ribbon- cutting ceremony prior to the game.
Once the ball tipped, Cashion got out to a 13-8 lead.
The Lady Eagles cut it to a three-point game at half, but Cashion pulled away over the final two quarters.
Brooke Shafer led the way with her 14 points. She was one of three Lady Wildcats in double figures.
Kate Nabavi scored 12 and Abby Hobgood 11.
Megan Shafer just missed double figures with her eight points.
The victory evened Cashion’s Three Rivers Conference record at 3-3. The team closed out its regular season Tuesday at home against Okarche (after press time of this edition).
Cashion remains perfect in conference play
Eleven different players scored Friday as Cashion moved its win streak to four games and put itself in line for a conference championship.
Like the girls, the Cashion boys put a damper on the grand opening of Watonga’s new gym Friday with a 72-31 road win.
The victory pushed the Wildcats’ record to 18-6. They are 6-0 in Three Rivers Conference games and hosted fellow conference unbeaten Okarche Tuesday to decide the regular season title. (Note: The game was after press time of this edition.)
The Wildcats dominated all facets against Watonga and were never threatened.
They led 22-10 after a quarter and pushed it to 39-17 by halftime.
Watonga was held to 25 percent (13 of 51) shooting overall, including 2 of 18 (11 percent) from 3-point range.
Cashion also out-rebounded its hosts 40-25.
Parker Mitchell led the way with 16 points. He also had six rebounds, one of five Wildcats to grab five or more.
Carson Gump added 14 points and a team-high seven boards.
Hudson Horan chipped in seven points and five boards.
