Small-school basketball seasons start this week
The first of November marks the beginning of basketball season for the state’s two smallest classes.
Schools in Class A and B can begin varsity games on Nov. 1. Locally, that includes Lomega, Dover and Okarche. Dover was the only county school to play on Tuesday, Nov. 1 (after press time of this edition).
The Lady Longhorns and Longhorns traveled to play Cimarron. The game marked the debut of first-year girls head coach Matt Peck, who replaces Brett Pitts.
Results of those games will be in the weekend edition. Lomega, like Dover, remains in Class B and is waiting until Friday for its season opener. The Lomega squads will host Dover in what will serve as the school’s basketball homecoming.
Next week, Lomega hosts Drummond on Tuesday and travels to Okarche on Friday. That will also be Okarche’s third game of the season. The Lady Warriors and Warriors begin this Friday with a trip to Preston.
They remain on the road next Tuesday (Nov. 8) at Calumet. The Nov. 11 game with Lomega will be Okarche’s home opener.
