Seniors Hine, Lunsford lead KHS teams at final regular-season meet
Conner Hine was faster than anyone in his final regular season meet.
The Kingfisher High School senior took first place last Friday in the boys race of the Mooreland Cross Country Invitational.
Hine ran the five kilometer course in 17:49.90, which was nearly three seconds faster than Hooker’s Elijah Gribble.
He helped the Jackets to a fourth-place finish in the meet.
KHS finished with 95 points and were just three points out of second place.
Hooker handily won the meet with 22.
Buffalo was second with 92 and Mooreland third with 94.
Conner Askey and Coleman Gilles also got top-20 finishes for the Jackets.
Askey ran 17th in 10:15.64 while Gilles was two spots and 10 seconds behind him.
Hooker is ranked No. 1 in 2A in both the boys and girls standings.
Hooker’s girls also lived up to that billing by edging KHS by a point in the team standings.
Hooker had 42 points and KHS 43 in a showdown of highly-ranked teams.
Kingfisher is ranked fifth in 4A.
The Lady Jackets were led by senior Katon Lunsford.
She finished the 3,200 meter course in 13:26.34, good for sixth place overall.
Liberty Starr was two spots behind her and Chesni Newkirk placed 10th.
Kingfisher’s scoring was rounded out by Jacee Mueggenborg (12th) and Emmy Lunsford (14th).
Hennessey’s girls were seventh in the meet.
They were led by Jamie Torres and Taryn Jech.
Torres ran ninth overall and Jech was 13th.
Kingfisher and Hennessey now sets their sights on the postseason and will run Saturday in a regional at Oklahoma Bible Academy in Enid (see story).
