Second win easy; third will have to wait
Lomega sweeps past Drummond, but rash of postponements delays Lady Raiders
Lomega picked up another blowout win last week and it might be the last one for a while.
The Lady Raiders disposed of visiting Drummond 93-32 on Tuesday as five players scored in double figures.
It improved the team to 2-0, but the third win likely won’t come until December.
Lomega’s game at Okarche scheduled Friday (Nov. 13) was postponed due to a high number of COVID cases in Okarche.
The team’s next scheduled game is Tuesday at Calumet, but Calumet has currently shut down its activities (including canceling last Tuesday’s games with Okarche).
Further adding to Lomega’s delay is Burlington not having a girls team this season. Lomega visits Burlington on Friday.
That means the Lady Raiders aren’t scheduled to play again until Dec. 7 in the first round of the Canton Tournament.
Drummond had a fairly successful first quarter against the Lady Raiders as it scored 13 points.
That was the good news. The bad news for the visitors was they still trailed by a dozen and then Lomega went on a 247 run in the second quarter.
The scoring was balanced, but Sydni Walker scored nine in the first quarter while Darcy Roberts added seven.
Roberts chipped in seven more during the second-quarter run.
Walker again was dominant in the third as she scored 10 points as part of a 27-8 barrage by the Lady Raiders.
The sophomore post led the team with 21 points.
Roberts scored 16 overall.
Freshman Abby Swart poured in 19 points, including 12 in the fourth. She made three of her four 3-pointers in the final frame.
Adysen Wilson added 13 points and Emma Duffy scored 10.
Fisher leads balanced Lomega attack
Like the girls, the Lomega boys had their second straight blowout win.
Unlike the girls, the boys likely won’t have to wait as long to play again.
Led by a balanced scoring attack, Lomega outscored Drummond in each quarter for a 75-32 victory.
Four Raiders scored in double figures, led by senior Dion Fisher’s 15
He scored eight in a 24-5 third-quarter run after the Raiders had already built a 40-19 lead.
Noah Snowden added 14 points, including 10 in the first half.
Riley Lumpkin chipped in 11 and Blake Snowden 10.
Although the Calumet game is postponed, Burlington does have a boys team for the Raiders to take on Friday.
After that, the team also won’t play again until the Canton Tournament.
School officials at Okarche and Lomega have said they’re searching for a make-up date for their games, but it likely won’t come until after the holiday break.
