Saints prey on Hennessey in district opener
Garret Wilson and his biggest target ensured there was no upset taking place in Hennessey.
Wilson threw for four touchdowns - two of them to Luke Gray - as the Oklahoma Christian School Saints stayed undefeated with a 49-7 road win Friday at Hennessey.
Gray, a 6-foot-7 senior tight end who holds collegiate offers in both football and basketball caught three passes for 131 yards.
Included was a 66-yard haul from Wilson with 7:35 left in the first quarter to put the Saints on the board.
Gray also had the final offensive touchdown of the first half as his 37-yard score pushed the visitors to a 35-7 edge.
OCS added a fumble return for a touchdown before the end of the half.
Wilson ended his night 15 of 22 for 235 yards.
He also had TD passes to Henry Rottwell and Kyler Brown.
Hennessey’s lone score also came through the air.
The Eagles struck with 33 seconds left in the first quarter when Gunnar Holder found Kevin Trillo for a 58-yard touchdown.
A junior, Holder ended his night with 133 yards on 12 of 25 passing.
Weston Smith caught six passes for 51 yards while Trillo’s three receptions covered 71 yards.
For Smith, the night moved him up the HHS record books.
He is now fourth all-time in the program’s list of leaders in receiving yards.
Smith has 1,690, which is just 23 yards shy of third place on the list.
Jerry Ashcraft (2,529 yards) and Barry Crosswhite (1,980 yards) top the all-time list.
The Eagles struggled to find any momentum on the ground as their 21 rush attempts netted 24 yards.
The Saints gained 161 yards on the ground and averaged 5.6 yards a carry.
Freshman Isaac Renteria led Hennessey with 11 tackles.
Jessin Hardin added 10 and Trillo nine.
OCS improved to 4-0 in winning its District 2A-1 opener.
The Eagles are now 0-4 and 0-1.
They travel to Perry (2-2, 1-0) on Friday night.
