Saints’ Cowan repeats as champ
OU commitment shoots 64 at KGC; Jackets’ Burnham takes 3rd
Ryder Cowan repeated as the medalist and Heritage Hall claimed the team title in a packed field Wednesday at the Kingfisher Large School Golf Invitational.
For the second straight year, Oklahoma Christian School’s Cowan was able to fire a 6-under-par 64 at Kingfisher Golf Course in winning the individual title.
Last year he had to win a one-hole playoff with
Christian Heritage Academy’s Drew Goodman, who is now a freshman on the University of Oklahoma golf team.
This year, Cowan, a junior who has committed to play at OU, won by four strokes as Heritage Hall’s Kyle McLaughlin shot a 68 to take second.
Kingfisher’s Tristun Burnham and the Saints’ Bryant Polhill were able to card even-par 70s.
Burnham won on a scorecard playoff to take third.
Heritage Hall’s Matthew Smith was fifth with his 72.
The Chargers, who are ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, shot a 279 using the Maxwell format (instead of the four lowest rounds counting as the team’s total, it’s the four lowest scores on each hole, then the hole totals are added up).
All five Heritage Hall golfers shot 77 or better.
OCS is ranked second in Class 3A and was second overall, eight strokes behind Heritage Hall.
Crossings Christian School was third with a 297. CCS is third in 3A.
The No. 1 ranked 3A team, Christian Heritage, was seventh in this 24-team field.
The Crusaders shot a 306.
They were also behind Class 6A Westmoore and 4A No. 5 Cushing, both with 304s, and Bethany, which shot a 305.
The Jackets were 10th overall with their 325.
Blake Hill shot a 77.
Jax Sternberger added a 90 and Cash Slezickey a 94.
