Rams outlast Okarche in semis
Matching up with Rattan hasn’t proven kind to Okarche in the last seven months.
The third-ranked Rams ousted Okarche from the Class A state baseball tournament with a 5-1 victory in last Friday’s semifinals at Edmond Memorial.
Rattan went on to beat Silo 4-1 on Saturday to claim the state championship.
Ninth-rankedOkarche’s season ended with a 26-5 record.
The Warriors beat out No. 8 Tushka (twice) in the previous week’s regional and knocked off No. 2 Wister 5-0 in the quarterfinal round.
That game ended at about 1 a.m. Friday, just over 12 hours before the semifinal started.
Luke Hill put the Warriors on the board early against Rattan as he singled and later scored when Easton Roby got in a rundown between first and second.
That was the only run Okarche would be able to muster.
Hill, the Warriors’ starter, kept it a 1-1 game until Rattan broke through with four runs in the sixth inning.
The two schools also met up in the 2023 Class A basketball state quarterfinals in March.
Rattan eliminated the Warriors 75-60.
Okarche’s four other losses this year were 7-6 to Ft. Cobb-Broxton, 1-0 to Calumet, 1-0 to Dale and 7-4 to Oktaha.
Ft. Cobb beat Calumet in the Class B state title game.
Oktaha was No. 1 in Class A for much of the season and was upset by Silo in the Class A semifinals. Silo also beat Dale in the quarterfinals.
Okarche handed Calumet its lone loss prior to the Class B title game.
