Okarche, Lomega on verge of district titles
Two county baseball schools were in great shape for district championships after Thursday’s opening day.
In Lomega, the Raiders won a 10-9 shootout against Timberlake and then run-ruled Cimarron 13-1.
That left the Raiders needing just one win Friday (after press time) to claim a Class B district championship.
Okarche is in the same boat in Class A.
The Warriors hosted Wellston and Coyle and had no problems garnering a pair of wins.
Okarche defeated Wellston 9-1 and then shut down Coyle 14-0.
Like Lomega, Okarche needs just one victory Friday to win the district and move into this week’s regional tournament.
Dover joined Verden at Lookeba- Sickles for a Class B district.
Verden defeated the Longhorns 9-1 Thursday in their district opener.
Lookeba-Sickles ended the Longhorns’ season in a 21-1 victory.
Okarche, Hennessey, Dover eliminated from softball districts
All three Kingfisher County teams have been eliminated from the slow pitch softball playoffs.
In Class 4A, Hennessey saw its season come to an end in a district at Crescent.
The Lady Eagles were defeated 11-5 by Luther and 15-0 by the host team.
Crescent eventually won the district title with a 15-5 victory over Luther in the championship to advance to the regional.
In Class 2A, Okarche played host to Keota and Porum Wednesday.
The Lady Warriors were never able to get their bats going and were defeated in consecutive games.
That included a 13-3 loss to Porum and then 16-3 to Keota.
Keota, which opened with a 17-4 victory over Porum, won the final with a 7-3 triumph for the district title.
Dover’s Class B district was Thursday at Timberlake.
The Lady Longhorns got off to a good start as they knocked off Mulhall-Orlando 11-3.
However, they were defeated in their next two as the host team emerged 8-1 and then M-O exacted some revenge, 14-1, in an elimination game.
Timberlake beat M-0 7-5 for the championship.
