OCS puts end to Hennessey win streak
Hennessey’s win streak came to an abrupt halt last Friday against the best team in its district and perhaps one of the better squads in all of 2A.
Oklahoma Christian School dominated both sides of the ball in a 55-0 victory over the Eagles in Edmond.
The loss dropped Hennessey, which had won two straight games going in, to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in District 2A-1.
Unbeaten OCS won the battle up front as the Saints out-rushed the Eagles 267-79.
They averaged 12.7 yards per carry to Hennessey’s 1.8 and scored five touchdowns of 20 or more yards.
That helped offset Hennessey taking nearly twice as many snaps and doubling up the Saints in time of possession.
After going up 14-0 in the first quarter, the Saints put the game away in the second.
Peyton McIntire scored two of his four rushing touchdowns and Collin Matteson returned an interception for a touchdown to give them a 35-0 halftime lead.
McIntire rushed 11 times for 158 yards.
That’s more yardage than Hennessey managed overall.
Sebastian Gonzalez was 6 of 16 through the air for 74 yards. He ran for another 67 yards on 25 attempts.
Weston Smith was the lone Eagle with more than one catch. He had two for 40 yards.
Brandon Mendoza led the team in tackles with five.
The Eagles cap their regular season at home Friday against Luther, but still have at least one more week of football remaining beyond that.
Head coach Paul Hix said his team, currently fifth in the district, fully intends to take advantage of the OSSAA’s measure that allows all teams to take part in the playoffs this season.
