Obeso signs with Texas Tech, Neal with Emporia State
Two former Kingfisher County baseball standouts will be teammates for one more season, but will venture their different ways afterward.
Austin Neal and Miguel Obeso signed last month to continue their baseball careers at four-year schools. Both are currently preparing for their sophomore seasons at Cowley County Community College in Kansas.
NEAL was a pitcher and infielder at Kingfisher High School. He signed to continue his career at Emporia State University. He’ll be joining another former Yellowjacket, Matt Hopkins, once there. Neal struck out eight batters in 8 2/3 innings of work last season and is expected to see his role increase in 2020.
OBESO was an All-State player for Dover High School and signed to play for Texas Tech University. He was 6-1 with 77 strikeouts in 44 2/3 innings. He was then drafted in the 40th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Toronto Bluejays.
Neal and Obeso helped Cowley win conference and region titles and earn a sixth-place finish at the JUCO World Series. They were two of seven Cowley County players to sign with four-year schools. [Photos provided]
