OBA gets repeat title over Cashion
For the second straight year, Oklahoma Bible Academy is the Three Rivers Conference Tournament champion on the girls side.
And, for the second straight year, it came at the expense of Cashion in the championship game.
OBA downed the Lady Wildcats 46-43 Monday night in title tilt at Minco High School.
The top seed, OBA improved to 14-0 on the season. Cashion, playing for the fourth time in five days despite several team members being sick, dropped to 9-6.
It was Cashion’s second time to play OBA in just over a week and also the Lady Wildcats’ third straight game against a ranked foe.
They beat 2A No. 19 Fairview in the semifinals on Monday, then lost at Class A No. 1 Seiling in a regular- season game on Tuesday.
In this showdown with OBA, Cashion started hot and raced out to a 20-14 lead.
However, the Lady Trojans closed the half on a 14-4 run.
OBA took its lead late into the game and was up 4541 with under 20 seconds to play.
Cashion freshman Kate Nabavi drove to the basket and was fouled with 11.2 seconds left.
She made both free throws to pull Cashion within two points.
OBA was able to get the clock down to 4.7 seconds before Cashion fouled and Karson Jenkins made one of two free throws for the three-point lead.
Cashion was unable to get off a shot to try to tie the game.
Jenkins scored 10 for OBA, which is ranked sixth in Class 2A. Conley Cayot led the team with 18 points.
Megan Shafer scored 18 for the Lady Wildcats. Nabavi finished the game with nine points.
Lady Warriors claim third
When they first met last December, Fairview handed Okarche an 18-point loss, which came one day after the Lady Warriors lost to Oklahoma Bible Academy.
Okarche got its return date with Fairview on Wednesday…two days after losing to OBA.
History didn’t repeat itself. Okarche erased a six-point deficit to force overtime and eventually downed Fairview 50-48 in the girls third place game at the Three Rivers Conference Tournament.
Avery Schieber gave Okarche the lead with two free throws during the overtime and the Lady Warriors didn’t surrender it.
Ally Baustert’s free throw with 2 seconds to play helped keep the lead at two points.
Fairview led 31-25 going into the fourth quarter, but Scout Payne’s two 3-pointers and seven points by Callie Cramer helped erase the deficit.
In OT, five different Lady Warriors scored, including six points from Katie Parham, who had been limited to that point.
Parham ended the game with nine as Okarche improved to 9-6.
Cramer led the team with 14 while Schieber scored 12. Harper White contributed seven points.
Hennessey wins consolation
Hennessey and Watonga had the rare distinction of playing each other on backto- back nights last week.
They first met up Monday in the consolation semifinals of the conference tournament, a game the Lady Eagles won 45-36.
On Tuesday, the teams tangled in Watonga for their regular-season matchup. Hennessey outscored the hosts 8-0 in overtime to win 61-53.
The Lady Eagles were back at it Wednesday, returning to the conference tournament, but this time to take on host Minco in the consolation championship game.
Behind a strong second half, Hennessey rallied to win 35-30.
It was Hennessey’s third straight victory overall and fifth in its last six outings.
Star Torres made two big fourth-quarter treys in the win over Minco, which improved the team to 6-5.
The Lady Eagles outscored Minco 22-17 in the second half.
They were led by Clare Munroe’s 12 points while Katie Kennedy scored nine.
Kennedy scored 21 in the win over Watonga the night before.
Hennessey also got 16 from Emma Copeland and 12 from Torres.
