Lomega splits with Calumet
Lomega picked up its first “easy” win of the season on Tuesday.
The Lady Raiders won their third straight game with an 87-17 home win over Calumet.
The team’s previous two victories were by 11 points at Drummond and by two points over Okarche.
Calumet never posed a threat to keep it close.
The Lady Raiders were up 27-0 after a quarter and 47-4 by halftime.
They had more 3-point makes (10) than the Lady Chieftains had total field goals (7).
Abby Swart made four of those treys as part of her 16 points.
She made three of them in the third quarter as Lomega extended its lead to 70-10.
Paige Wheeler scored 12 while Aliana Lawson added 11.
Freshman Bree Yost chipped in 10 points and Monse Rivera and Hadley Ott scored nine apiece.
Twelve different Lady Raiders scored as they improved to 3-1.
Calumet pulls away
A brutal three-game stretch came to an end Tuesday for the Lomega boys.
They were defeated 7546 by visiting Calumet, a team that returned nearly everyone from the 2022-23 squad that finished as Class B runner-up.
Prior to that, Lomega dropped games to Drummond and Okarche, both whom also returned a bulk of their rosters from teams that reached the Class A state tournament a year ago.
Calumet averaged 70 points in the first half of its first two games of the season.
The Raiders kept their visitors well under that.
They kept Calumet within striking distance for much of the first half before the Chieftains closed strong for a 43-21 halftime lead.
They used a 23-7 run in the second to build a bulk of that advantage.
Lomega was unable to close any of the gap in the second half.
The Raiders were led by Chase Burton’s 12 points.
Ben Marsh added nine points.
Kalen Thiessen paced the visitors as he led three Chieftains in double figures with his 15 points.
