Lomega, Okarche to show off new facilities
Lomega and Okarche are going to have the opportunity to show off their new-look ballparks this month.
The OSSAA announced district assignments for Class A and B baseball and all of slowpitch softball last week.
Those assignments revealed that Okarche and Lomega will serve as host sites.
In Class B, Lomega will host Cimarron/Aline-Cleo and Timberlake.
The Raiders were 1111 at press time and have shown steady improvement under coach Jared Swart.
They had won four of five going into the Brexten Green Memorial Tournament in Cashion over the weekend, but opened with losses to Ft. Cobb-Broxton and Calumet.
They ended the tournament with a 10-2 victory against Cashion JV. Okarche will welcome Coyle and Wellston to town.
The Warriors were 14-4 at press time and ranked No. 18.
Only one of those losses was to a team outside of the top-eight in their respective class.
Two signature wins came in back-to-back games as they knocked off Class 2A No. 3 Dale (which won the fall state championship) by a score of 9-5 on April 4.
Just two days later, Okarche opened the Brexten Green Memorial Tournament in Cashion with a 3-0 victory over Class B No. 4 Calumet.
After losing to Class B’s top-ranked Ft. Cobb-Broxton in the semifinals, Okarche wrapped up the tournament by knocking off 2A No. 12 Dibble 13-5 on Saturday.
Baseball districts must be completed no later than Saturday, April 22.
In Class 2A softball, Okarche will host Porum and Keota.
The Okarche softball and baseball teams are sporting a brand-new facility that sits just north of the high school.
The all-turf fields were christened in March.
Lomega has done a complete overhaul of its baseball facility from dugouts to backstop and netting and much more.
Also in Class B, Dover will travel to Lookeba-Sickles along with Verden.
Other county slowpitch district assignments see Dover and Mulhall-Orlando visiting Timberlake in Class B; Hennessey and Luther traveling to Crescent in 4A; and Kingfisher and Western Heights traveling to Chisholm in Class 5A.
Softball districts must also wrap up no later than April 22 and can begin no sooner than April 17.
