Lady Jackets grab 2 wins at OCS
Back-to-back wins on Saturday locked up the consolation championship for the Kingfisher girls at the Oklahoma Christian School Saints Invitational soccer tournament.
The Lady Jackets bounced back from an opening loss to the host school to grab wins over Bristow and Atoka, both by a 2-1 score.
The wins were the first of the season under new head coach Aniessa Edsall.
“I thought our team did well over the weekend,” Edsall said, noting it was Kingfisher’s first foray into the tournament.
OCS knocked off KHS 9-1 on Friday.
Kylee Rojas scored the team’s only goal in the second half.
In the Saturday morning tilt with Atoka, Jaquelin Rivera assisted on both of Kingfisher’s goals.
Both were just minutes apart.
The first saw her set up Ariana Rivera in the 61st minute.
Just six seconds later, Avery Davis scored what proved to be the game winner.
In the consolation championship game, Kylee Rojas got the team on the board when she scored off Maleonia Vogt’s corner kick 12 minutes in.
Then, just seven minutes into the second half, Yamile Saucedo’s goal proved to be the difference.
Ariana Rivera assisted on the decisive score.
Zoey Padilla was in goal for both wins.
Rojas earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
Kingfisher moved to 2-3 with the wins as several District 3A-2 games litter the remainder of the schedule.
“We missed out on all our scrimmages due to weather cancellations, so these games were a really nice preparation for district play beginning this week,” Edsall said.
Despite the lack of action, Edsall said the Lady Jackets are showing signs of getting better.
“Even from the first game a couple weeks ago, we’ve shown a lot of improvement in the way we move the ball and we’re giving ourselves more and more opportunities to score each game we play,” she said.
“I’m eager to see the continued improvement as our season goes on.”
