Lady Jackets cruise past Chisholm
Kingfisher did as expected in its season opener.
The Lady Jackets allowed just two field goals none in the second half - as they dismantled Chisholm 63-5 Friday at Outhier Fieldhouse.
The Lady Jackets started slowly offensively, then heated up considerably.
The defense, though, never let up.
KHS scored the game’s first 10 points, then got a 21-0 run and eventually led 40-4 at halftime.
The home team struggled not just to make shots, but simply to get them off, attempting 20 total field goals in the game.
Kingfisher deflected 25 passes and had 22 steals. The Lady Jackets had 18 offensive rebounds and out-rebounded Chisholm 38-25 overall.
“I thought we rebounded really well defensively,” noted head coach Taylor Young, starting her third season with the program.
Chisholm had just two offensive rebounds and no second-chance points. The Lady Longhorns were also without a 3-point make.
KHS made seven, led by senior Addy Matthews.
She was 4 of 5 from long range and led all scorers with 23 points. She also had a team-high six steals.
Fellow senior Peyton Walker added eight points to go with six assists, six steals and six more deflections.
Freshman Mattie Slezickey came off the bench and provided 14 points, four assists and four steals.
“I thought Mattie had a good night for her first high school game,” Young said.
Talor Mecklenburg added five points while Reagan Snider scored four to go with her team-high seven rebounds.
