Lady Jackets’ Walker signs with UCO
Peyton Walker will be making the move from blue and gold in high school to blue and bronze in college.
The Kingfisher High School senior on Wednesday signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her basketball career at the University of Central Oklahoma.
She had committed to the Lady Bronchos program over the summer.
“There are so many things,” she said when asked what swayed her to the Lady Bronchos program. “One, I love the coaches. That was one of the most important things to me.
“They’re very much a family-based team and I really liked that.”
The signing took place in the APB alongside her parents Charles and Julie Walker and sister Taitym Walker.
Also on hand were several other family members, including grandparents, as well as KHS coaches, teammates, classmates and family friends.
Walker has started in each of her previous three seasons at KHS.
She has helped lead the Lady Jackets to the last two Class 4A state tournaments.
As a junior, the point guard averaged 8.8 points, 3.2 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
“I am so happy for Pey- She is the definition of hard work, determination and has a true competitive spirit about her,” said KHS head girls coach Taylor Young. “Her work ethic is unmatched and she has truly earned this opportunity to go and play at the next level.
“I am excited to see her have a great senior year and am looking forward to her future success.”
