Lady Jacket golfers 2nd at Elk City
Audra Smalley can noticeably see the improvement in her girls golf team and expects more to be on the way. Kingfisher High School placed second Monday at the Patsy Poole Invitational in Elk City. The team’s 378 was 16 strokes better than its previous tournament in Oklahoma City.
Elk City won the tournament with a 350. Clinton was third with a 380. “The girls are playing really well,” Smalley said. “I think we are so close to turning the corner where most of the girls are capable of taking 10 strokes off their score.”
That feat won’t be quite possible for the Lady Jackets’ top golfer, Maddi Kamas.
The sophomore fired a 1-under-par 70 to win medalist honors.
She out-dueled Cordell’s Megan Brown by a stroke. Brown was the Class 2A state champ in 2017 and the state runner-up to Cashion’s Sydney Manning last year.
“She hit the ball well today,” Smalley said of Kamas. “She was putting herself in position to make birdies. She has such a good temperament when she plays.”
Alexis Stitt shot a 96 for the Jackets while Sierra Townsend scored a 103. Olivia Wilcox was next with a 109 and Katey Brickman shot 122.The Lady Jackets played in the Kingfisher Invitational on Wednesday. Kari Shepard played in the small-school version of the tournament Monday as an individual. She shot a 109.
