KJH girls basketball, wrestling teams win tournaments
It was a stellar weekend for the Kingfisher Junior High girls athletics programs. The Kingfisher eighth grade girls basketball team (left) defeated Weatherford 30-28 on Saturday to win the Weatherford Middle School Basketball Tournament championship. Lily Voth hit the game winner with just two seconds remaining to help bring home the championship trophy. Team members are, from left: Hinsley Brodrick (seventh grader), Addy Brueggen (manager), Addi Johnson (manager), Ela Hartman, Ryan Scammahorn, Lily Voth, Kendall Farrar, Yesenia Rivera (with trophy), Callie Blair, Tiffany Conner, Nina Butts and Coach Nicole Kippenberger. Pictured on the right is the junior high wrestling team, which won the Hub City Junior High Tournament team title in Clinton on Friday. Pictured are, from left: Shelby Willson, Delissa Evans, Effie Hendrix, Emily Hamil, Sophie Ellis, Tylar Prim, Aubree Torres and Aislin Barnett. The team scored 140 points to win, 31 points better than runner-up Altus. Hamil was runner-up and Ellis took third at 89 pounds; Torres was fifth at 110; Willson placed fourth at 110; Prim was fifth at 117; Hendrix was runner-up at 126 and Evans runner-up at 145; and Barnett won the 180-pound championship. The junior high team took part in the Yukon Ladies Invitational on Saturday and took third as a team. Hamil (91 pounds) and Barnett (182) won their weight classes. Prim was third at 119 and Hendrix fourth at 128. [Photos provided]
