Kingfisher Rodeo results announced
Nearly $20,000 in prize money was awarded to contestants during last weekend’s 65th annual Kingfisher Rodeo.
The event was spread out over Friday and Saturday at the Kingfisher Roundup Club Arena and was sanctioned by the Kansas Professional Rodeo Association and the International Professional Rodeo Association.
Among the top local finishers were Kingfisher’s Monty McNair and Ames’ Robert Kirchner.
The duo took second in the 40/40 team roping behind Kevin Huddleston and Waide Jewell.
Huddleston (Memphis, Texas) and Jewell (Booker, Texas) pocketed more than $524 each for their win.
Open team roping winners were Hazen Suit and Derrick Jantzen, both of Ames. Both won more than $794.
Kody Hoss of LaJunta Colo., brought home the breakaway roping championship and the $1,070.94 in prize money.
Mutual’s Tucker Huffman won the $446.24 prize money in claiming the tie down roping title.
In steer wrestling, Ry Clark of Morse, Texas, needed just 7.2 seconds, which was more than twice as fast as the nearest competitors. He won more than $640.
In the riding competitions, Goodwell’s Jade Taton was a two-time winner.
Taton was awarded a 77 to win the saddle bronc competition and a 74 in the bareback and claimed more than $750 in prize money.
Skyla Peters of Sublette, Kan., won by a narrow margin in barrel racing.
Peters’ time of 16.01 seconds was .10 faster than Jacey Jensen of Burwell, Neb.
Peters won $1,214.75 and Jensen $1,005.31 in an event that paid out more than $4,100.
Logan Freeman of Laverne’s 68 won the ranch broncridingandthe$705.20 in prize money.
None of the bull riders were able to make a qualifying time.
