KHS hosting 2 dozen wrestling teams at this weekend’s Western Conference Tournament
The APB will be wall to wall with wrestlers as Kingfisher High School will once again host the Western Conference Wrestling Tournament.
Action will begin at noon on both Friday and Saturday as more than two dozen teams will vie for mat supremacy.
Joining Kingfisher at the tournament will be Crossings Christian, Cashion, Chandler, Clinton, Anadarko, Davis, Davenport, Elk City, Elgin, Heritage Hall, Hinton, Mangum, Tonkawa, Watonga, Woodward, Pawnee, Cordell, Geary, Hobart, Piedmont, Weatherford, Cache and Morrison.
Most of those schools will also have teams participating in the junior portion of the tournament.
There will also be girls divisions in both high school and junior high.
Elgin is the tournament’s defending champ as the Owls had three wrestlers crowned champs in 2019 and scored 207.5 points.
Clinton was second, KHS third and Tonkawa fourth last year.
KHS has two wrestlers back who won their weight class a year ago.
The Jackets’ Bryce Hawk, now a senior, won the 113-pound title in 2019.
Presten Coughlan won at 126 pounds.
Sophomore Dawson Garvin (106 pounds) and senior Blake Neal (182) were third in their respective weights at last year’s tournament.
