KHS golf programs donate to Kingfisher Golf Course
Kingfisher High School’s golf programs donated $750 to the Kingfisher Golf Course at the conclusion of their 2021 seasons.
The course allows the programs’ members to practice at the course daily and also hosts a number of tournaments each year.
That total reached eight during the 2021 season.
It included four invitational tournaments, a pair of regional qualifiers and then two regional tournaments.
“We just appreciate what (club pro and manager) Gary (Wilson) and his staff do for us each year,” said KHS boys golf coach Chris Combs.
“They put in a lot of work to accommodate us and to host the tournaments and this is just one of our ways to say ‘thank you’ to them.”
Wilson said the course benefits as well.
“The tournaments bring in a lot of golfers, their coaches and their families throughout the spring,” he said. “They play a lot of practice rounds here leading up to all those tournaments and they’re spending money in Kingfisher.
“And everyone is very complimentary of the course.”
The Kingfisher Golf Association feeds teams during the tournaments.
“We have a lot of association members who donate their time to cook the food, serve the golfers and coaches and just help make things run smooth out here,” Wilson said.
“Plus there are the ladies who work the front desk, make out our score sheets and the school officials who help score each tournament.
“It’s a real team effort and we’re proud to be able to pull it off each year.”
