With regionals lurking this weekend, the Kingfisher girls track team had the opportunity to see where it stacks up against some of the better squads in Class 4A.

Turns out the Lady Jackets stack up fairly well.

KHS finished in third place in the Western Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships, a meet it hosted last Friday.

The Lady Jackets notched 115 points, just five behind runner-up Blanchard.

Tuttle won the conference title with 150 points.

Kingfisher was also 11 points ahead of fourth-place Cache.

Cache was one of the teams anchor leg Scout Snodgrass ran down in the 1,600 meter relay, the final event of the day.

The KHS sophomore ran a punishing final leg to get Kingfisher to third place in the race as well as the meet.

It was one of three medals on the day for Snodgrass as she helped score points for KHS in all four of her events.

Abbie Myers matched her with three medals and points scored in four events, including the 800 and mile relays they ran together.

“I thought they all performed well,” said coach Kerri Lafferty.

“We had quite a few individual PR’s as well as with two of our relays.”

Those included that mile relay as well as the 3,200 meter relay, which took second place.

Snodgrass also ran the anchor leg of that race, nearly catching Tuttle’s Grace Mahan at the finish line.

Tuttle won in 10:08.23 while KHS was timed at 10:08.75.

Joining Snodgrass in the race were Kinley Taylor, Mattie Slezickey and Lily Lunsford.

Myers, Taylor and Slezickey ran the mile relay with Snodgrass. They finished in 4:11.53.

The 800 relay team same as the mile - was fourth in 1:49.26.

Individually, Snodgrass also won gold in the 800. Her time of 2:26.62 was more than five seconds faster than Mahan, the runner-up.

Myers won medals in two individual events.

She was second in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 1 inch.

She also placed third in the open 400 with her time of 1:02.47. Taylor was right behind her in fourth.

Other medalists for KHS saw Harper Evans take second in the two-mile run, Talor Mecklenburg get silver in the 100 hurdles and Lunsford third in the mile run.

“We didn’t have everyone in the events they will be running at regionals, so I’m pretty excited with the outcome of conference,”
