Kamas named 2023 top NAIA women’s golfer
Maddi Kamas of Oklahoma City University has been selected as the NAIA Women’s Golfer of the Year as chosen by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association. The sophomore from Kingfisher is now a twotime NAIA First-Team All-American, was twice named NAIA Golfer of the Week, was selected as Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Year and was the individual medalist at the SAC tournament. She won three tournaments while also finishing second twice in the teams’ nine total tournaments.
She scored an NAIA best 73.50 scoring average and 79 birdies, which was second best in the country. At the 2023 NAIA National Championship at TPC Deere Run, Kamas finished tied for 14th with a total of 306 included a low round of 72 for the Stars who finished third in the team standings.
Kamas was a standout at KHS through her entire career.
She was the 4A state runner-up by a single stroke as a sophomore in 2019.
Her 2020 junior season was derailed by COVID-19. When she was allowed to return to the course again in 2021, Kamas made it count.
Her two-day total of 4-under-par 136 at the 4A state tournament in Cushing was 20 strokes better than the state runner-up.
As a freshman at OCU in 2022, Kamas tied for third individually in the national championship tournament.
That came after winning the SAC individual title and being named SAC player of the week three times.
Her 72.70 average as a freshman was second best in OCU history.
