Jacket golfers 3rd in season opener
Elk City edged out Tuttle and Kingfisher to take the team title at last week’s Weatherford Large-School Boys Invitational Tournament.
The Elks shot a 312 at Prairie West Golf Course, which proved to be two strokes better than Tuttle and three better than the Jackets.
KHS, playing its first tournament of the season, distanced itself from the rest of the field. Crossings Christian was fourth in the 18-team tournament Friday with a 328.
The Jackets were paced by senior Tristun Burnham, who shot a 4-overpar 75.
The score put him in a three-way tie for third, but Burnham was able to claim third on a scorecard playoff. Koen King of Tuttle and Nathan Womack of Elk City also fired 75s.
Elk City’s Mason Schmidt claimed medalist honors with his 3-under-par 68.
Crossings Christian’s Patrick Coulter was second with a 73.
Blake Hill shot a 79 for the Jackets, which tied him for 11th.
Fellow senior Cash Slezickey’s 80 tied him for 14th.
Myles Harrison fired an 81 and placed 16th.
Paytun Burnham shot an 89 and Jax Sternberger, playing as an individual, a 92.
The Jackets returned to the course Wednesday in Bethany’s tournament at Lake Hefner Golf Club’s North Course.
