Hennessey Eagles victorious in first district game
Three different Eagles accounted for two touchdowns apiece as Hennessey got its district season started with a victory.
Hennessey scored the game’s first six touchdowns Friday in a 45-12 homecoming victory against Newkirk.
The win evened Hennessey’s overall record at 2-2 with its second straight win. It’s now 1-0 in District 2A-1.
The home team wasted no time as Jakob Johns hauled in a 52-yard touchdown pass from Gunnar Holder early in the first.
That kickstarted a 35-point first half as Hennessey took Newkirk out of contention.
Jessin Hardin followed up Johns’ TD with his own 18-yard scoring run in the first quarter.
The second frame saw Hennessey post three TDs, all on the ground.
Braedyn Richardson delivered the first with a 3-yard run and then Holder scored from 15 yards out. That gave the QB his second touchdown of the night.
Hardin got his second on a 1-yard TD run near the end of the first half.
Richardson picked up his second with a 10-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
Luis Macias-Montoya wrapped up the scoring for Hennessey with a 31-yard field goal in the third, giving the Eagles a 45-0 lead.
The visiting Tigers tacked on two fourth quarter touchdowns, but were unable to do much most of the night.
Newkirk had just 155 total yards, including 87 yards on 32 rushes.
Hennessey held Tripper Ramey to 7 of 16 passing for 73 yards.
The Eagles had more than 350 total yards, including 214 on the ground.
Holder led the balanced attack with 83 yards on nine carries.
Richardson got a teamhigh 13 touches for 63 yards.
Holder added another 141 yards through the air on 6 of 13 passing.
Johns and Beau Vinson caught two passes apiece. Johns’ receptions covered 71 yards. He also had an interception in the game.
Javy Rivera, Isaac Renteria and Brandon Rodriguez led Hennessey with six tackles each.
Hennessey will try to stretch its win streak to three games when it travels to Alva on Thursday.
