Hennessey’s good (FOUR)tune
Lady Eagles 4th at regional; in state for first time in 4 years
Some things are cause for celebration.
The Hennessey High School girls cross country team will have a send-off down Main Street at 10 a.m. this Saturday.
That’s because the Lady Eagles will be headed to state for the first time in four seasons.
“This is a huge accomplishment for the Lady Eagles,” said coach Cheyenne Baxter.
This is Baxter’s second year as the team’s head coach and third year with the program.
Hennessey got to state on the strength of its fourthplace finish at last Saturday’s Class 3A regional hosted by Oklahoma Bible Academy and Chisholm in Enid.
The Lady Eagles posted just 76 points to finish behind Prague (52), Chandler (59) and Heritage Hall (63).
Christian Heritage was a distant fifth with 147 points.
“They performed very well,” said Baxter of her team. “Most of the girls ran their personal best times.”
The team was led by freshman Taryn Jech, who finished the 3,200 meter course in 13:31.06.
She was seventh overall, but it counted sixth toward the team total because one of the runners ahead of her wasn’t a part of a complete team.
Jamie Torres was ninth (eighth) in 13:32.46 and Sol Tarango 12th (10th) in 13:46.36.
Torres is a sophomore and Tarango a senior. Two more freshmen were next as Jazzy Bullis was 25th (21st) and Brooke Sims 37th (31st).
Although their finishes didn’t count toward the team score, Naomi Gomez was 45th (38th) and Karci Vadder 65th (51st).
The Lady Eagles will compete at state for the first time since 2016. The state meet is Satur
The state meet is Saturday at Edmond Santa Fe High School.
