Hennessey High School sophomore Madison Collier not only made herself a repeat champion last weekend, she set a record in the process. Collier won the Class 3A discus event at the state track and field championships held in Catoosa for the second straight year. Her throw of 148 feet, 11 inches not only won her gold, but also set the new state meet record previously held by Sarah Polson of Pawhuska. Collier beat the old mark by five inches. Her nearest competitor’s throw in 2019 was 15 feet shorter than hers. Collier is considered the top-ranked discus competitor in the nation in the Class of 2021. She also took third place in the shot put for a second straight year. [Photo by Lark Joyce]
