Lomega dominates foes in Canton title run
Arnett was up to the task of playing Lomega’s pace in the Canton Invitational Tournament championship.
Well, for one quarter anyway.
Unfortunately for the Lady Wildcats, basketball chews up four quarters and they were eventually chewed up by Class B’s top-ranked Lady Raiders 106-57.
A blowout wasn’t in the work early as Lomega led 20-18 after the first quarter.
Lomega was just warming up.
The Lady Raiders outscored Arnett 30-12 in the second quarter. The second half was much the same.
While Arnett had four players score, Lomega had five score in double figures - three of them with at least 20.
Adysen Wilson led that group with 23 points as she scored at least five in every quarter.
Emma Duffy poured in 20 as did freshman Abby Swart.
Swart made six of Lomega’s 17 3-pointers in the game.
Darcy Roberts added three more as part of her 12 points and Hensley Eaton scored 13.
The title win followed Friday’s 78-36 dismantling of Calumet in the semifinals.
The game was Lomega girls’ first since Nov. 10.
No rust was apparent as Lomega started on a 25-4 run.
Roberts and Sydni Walk-er were the early catalysts.
Roberts scored 10 in the first quarter and ended with a game-high 23. She made five of the team’s nine 3-pointers.
Walker scored eight of her 14 points in the first.
Swart finished with 11 points and Wilson scored 10.
Wilson was named the tournament’s MVP while Roberts, Duffy and Walker joined her on the all-tournament team.
Lomega was 4-0 after the wins.
Raiders fall to Calumet in final
Free throws were unkind to Lomega in its bid to win the Canton Invitational Tournament.
The Raiders fell 61-60 to Class A’s fourth-ranked Calumet in Saturday’s championship game.
Up by four at halftime and a point after three quarters, the Raiders were just 10 of 18 from the charity stripe over the final eight minutes.
That included missing one of three free throws with just under four seconds to play with a chance to tie the game.
In all, Lomega was just 15 of 29 from the charity stripe.
Still, the Raiders had their chances.
Riley Lumpkin scored 10 points as Lomega outscored Calumet 18-9 in the second quarter to take a 29-25 lead.
Calumet began to heat up in the third and scored 21 points, but Lomega was still able to cling to a lead.
Noah Snowden scored eight points in the frame and Blake Snowden knocked down a pair of 3-pointers.
But the Raiders cooled off in the fourth. On top of the free throw shooting struggles, Lomega managed only one field goal, a Noah Snowden trey, over the final eight minutes.
Calumet knocked down four field goals during that stretch, including a pair of 3-pointers from Mark Castillo and another from Matt Snydern.
Both players finished with 14 points.
Noah Snowden scored 20 for Lomega, which fell to 5-1 on the season.
Lumpkin scored 17 overall and Blake Snowden scored 10.
The Raiders held off a late push from Oklahoma Bible Academy to emerge victorious 52-44 in the semifinal.
OBA had just 20 points and trailed by 14 after three quarters.
Noah Snowden scored 10 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter to help Lomega maintain a lead.
Blake Snowden finished with 10.
Both Snowdens were named to the all-tournament team.
