Field events benefit locals at Chisholm meet

Local athletes were close to dominant in the field events in last Friday’s Chisholm High School Track and Field Invitational.

Cashion’s Madelyn Mc-Cabe swept the jumping events while Hennessey’s Madison Collier took home a gold and silver in the throwing events.

For the boys, Hennessey senior Dalton Joyce won both the shot and discus while Kingfisher’s Colton York was second in the long jump.

Those capped successful days for most local teams in the annual meet.

Kingfisher’s boys were third overall with 100 team points.

Chisholm won the meet with 136 and Alva was the runner-up with 102.

The host school also won the girls championship trophy with 178 points.

Watonga was runner-up with 152 and Cashion third with 104.

KHS came in fifth with 77.

Madeline Loosen paced the Lady Jackets with a gold medal in the 400 and a silver in the 800.

Crescent’s Elizabeth Battelo won the 200 and Cashion won the girls 400 relay.

Outside of that, all the gold was in the field events.

McCabe cleared 5-2 in the high jump to win and her leap of 16 feet, 11 1/2 inches was one foot further than Battelo, who was second in the event.

Collier won the discus by about nine feet with her heave of 138-5. She cleared 37-10.5 in the shot put.

York also won the 200 to go with his silver in the long jump.

Cashion’s Austin Vandruff claimed gold in the 400 and he was also third in the100.

Kingfisher also won the 1,600 relay.

Joyce won the discus by five feet with his throw of 128-1.

His toss of 45-11 in the shot put won by more than two feet.
