Dover girls hold off Coyle for season’s first win
It didn’t come easy, but it happened.
Dover’s girls nabbed their first win of the season as they held off a late rally from Coyle, 44-42, in the opening round of the Cimarron Winter Classic.
The Lady Longhorns led 33-26 after three quarters and slightly increased that advantage in the fourth before Coyle made a come-back.
“We got a little frantic and took some shots we didn’t need to take because we’re still learning how to win,” coach Brett Pitts said. “I called a timeout to try to calm them down and remind them that we had the lead.”
Dover was definitely on the offensive early as six players scored in building a 26-20 halftime lead.
Katelyn Harviston had the hottest hand as she made two 3-pointers and scored 10 points in the half.
Dover’s scoring slowed in the third quarter but it maintained its lead until the fourth.
Harviston ended her night with 13 points.
Her twin sister Karlee Harviston scored nine points.
Hope Caldwell and Madi Moeller scored six points apiece.

Caldwell, Norton shoot Dover to victory
A slow start wasn’t enough to keep the Dover boys out of the Cimarron Winter Classic semifinals.
The Longhorns dominated the final three quarters to beat Mid-Moore Christian 67-39 on Thursday.
Dover fell behind 11-8 in the first quarter, but gained a 27-20 advantage by halftime.

That momentum carried into the third as Norton made three more from long range.
Caldwell finished strong with 15 points in the fourth quarter.
