Lady Raiders continue dominance of Cherokee Strip Conference Tournament
Lomega had to wait 16 days to get back on the basketball court and get rid of the taste of an upset loss to Okeene earlier this month.
The Cherokee Strip Conference Tournament field paid the price.
The Lady Raiders won their seventh straight conference tournament Saturday night with a 61-26 victory over Kremlin-Hillsdale in the championship game at Pioneer-Pleasant Vale High School.
The tournament had annually been played at the Chisholm Trail Expo Center, but teams voted to move it this year to the new Enid High School gym.
However, a scheduling conflict forced the one-year move to Pioneer.
The site didn’t matter for Lomega.
The 35-point victory was Lomega’s closest of the three-day run as the Lady Raiders won by an average 52 points.
That included Friday’s 80-23 victory against Ringwood in the semifinals.
Kremlin-Hillsdale was the only team able to keep within striking distance early.
The Lady Broncs “held” Lomega to 27 first-half points and trailed by just 11.
Lomega’s advantage grew to 19 points after three quarters and then it held Kremlin-Hillsdale without a field goal in the fourth as it closed with an 18-2 run.
Monse Rivera and Sydni Walker scored five points apiece in that final frame.
Walker finished with 11 and Rivera, who also scored five in the first quarter, had 10.
Darcy Roberts led all scorers with 17 points.
Lomega also got seven points apiece from Abby Swart, Hensley Eaton and Chloe Meier.
The Lady Raiders took care of Ringwood early as they led 29-5 after the first quarter.
The lead just continued to grow.
Swart dominated the Lady Devils with 29 points despite playing just three quarters.
She made two of her four 3-pointers and scored 17 points in the third quarter alone.
Roberts also buried two treys during the 25-4 third-quarter run.
The junior ended her night with 18 points.
Walker was a big part of the early barrage.
She notched 10 points in the second quarter and scored all 14 of her points in the first half.
She was named to the all-tournament team along with Swart and Roberts won the Most Valuable Player honor.
Swart and Roberts combined for 18 3-pointers over the three-day span.
Swart averaged 19.7 points and Roberts 20.7 in the tournament.
