Davis, Jenkins earn All-State
Pair of Kingfisher County seniors to play in annual OCA games in July
Chase Davis and Jonah Jenkins can add “All-State” to their resumes.
Kingfisher’s Davis and Cashion’s Jenkins were announced Thursday as two of the selections to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State basketball teams.
Davis will represent the Large West (Classes 4A-6A) while Jenkins will play for the Small West (Classes B-3A) July 28 during the annual OCA All-State Games in the Tulsa area.
Both county players were first voted to the all-star team for their respective class, which is required to earn an All-State nod.
Davis was selected in Class 4A while Jenkins got the same in 2A.
Jenkins was joined on the 2A all-star team by teammates Austin Frazier and Vance Raney.
That trio helped lead the Wildcats to a 24-6 record and a Class 2A state runner-up finish.
For the season, Jenkins averaged 12.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
He scored more than 1,000 points during his career and guided Cashion to three consecutive state tournaments.
A three-year starter and four-year letterman, Jenkins missed 11 games during his senior season, most due to a shoulder injury.
Still, Jenkins found ways to show up in big games. That included 20 points in the regional championship win against Amber-Pocasset, 18 against Crossings Christian School in the Tournament of Champions and 22 against Jenks in the same tournament.
Last season Jenkins scored 15 points in the win against Mangum that sent Cashion to the state tournament.
During his sophomore campaign, he scored 27 in a regional final win over Mangum.
“And, looking back, he played great every time we went against Dale,” said coach John Hardaway.
That included 20 points from Jenkins in this year’s state title game loss to the Pirates.
Davis made the most of his senior season, his only season to start for KHS.
He averaged 10.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists a contest.
He shot 41.3 percent from 3-point range, but became a lethal force during the playoffs.
During Kingfisher’s seven-game run to the Class 4A state championship, Davis was 18 of 31 from 3-point range, a staggering 58.1 percent.
He was 9 of 13 (69.2 percent) during the three-game state tournament.
“You just don’t see that,” coach Jared Reese said. “It doesn’t matter who you’re playing against and those were the biggest games of the season.”
Davis was named the state tournament MVP by multiple publications.
