Daugherty earns All-Big 12 academic honor
Oklahoma State University had 13 student-athletes named to the 2024 Academic All-Big 12 Baseball Team, including 11 on the first team.
Among them was Ian Daugherty of Kingfisher, who earned the honor for the second time in his OSU career.
Other Cowboys making first team were Jaxson Crull, Drew Blake, Ryan Bogusz, Zach Ehrhard, Riley Taylor, Colin Brueggemann, Evan O’Toole, Brennan Phillips, Nolan Schubart and Tyler Wulfert.
A pair of Cowboys were named to the Academic All-Big 12 second team as Gabe Davis and Janzen Keisel achieved that honor.
Academic All-Big 12 first team members consist of those student-athletes who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the previous two semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team’s scheduled contests.
Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence, meaning Daugherty has earned the honor both years he’s been eligible.
A finance major, Daugherty is the son of Derek and Micah Daugherty.
He played in 43 games and started 38 as catcher during his junior campaign.
Daugherty finished with a .252 batting average, hit 10 home runs and drove in 32 runs.
He helped OSU to a 42-19 overall record and the Big 12 Tournament championship.
OSU beat top-seeded Oklahoma 9-3 in that title game. Daugherty went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs, including a solo home run.
The Cowboys earned the right to host an NCAA regional.
