Crescent tackles Putnam Heights
Crescent began a two-week swing of non-district games last Friday by handing Putnam Heights Academy a 41-6 defeat at home.
The Tigers, like the rest of District A-3, have four non-district games this year after Northeast Academy was shut down after last school year by Oklahoma City Public Schools.
Crescent also plays at Healdton this week to round out its non-district schedule.
Hunter Wilmoth threw for a touchdown, ran for two and returned an interception for another as the Tigers snapped a four-game losing skid to improve to 3-5 on the season.
The game was shortened by a running clock for much of its contest.
Crescent took just nine offensive snaps and scored on four of them. The Tigers also scored on special teams.
Three of Wilmoth’s touchdowns came in the first quarter as the Tigers raced out to a 28-0 lead.
The junior ran for scores of 38 and 22 yards in the quarter and threw a 29-yard touchdown to Trent Fisher.
After Wilmoth’s initial touchdown, the Tigers blocked a Putnam Heights punt and Tayon Johnson recovered that for a score as well.
Wilmoth added to his night in the second quarter with his interception return.
Johnson added his own 45-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to help Crescent push its lead to 41-6.
That was Johnson’s only run of the night as Crescent’s offense was efficient in its limited snaps.
The Tigers ran it eight times for 151 yards, including three carries for 71 yards by Wilmoth.
His TD pass to Fisher was his lone attempt in the air.
The Tiger defense held Putnam Heights to 59 total yards, including minus-15 rushing on 28 attempts.
Cannon Bowers had a team-high 10 tackles while Dominic Descher added six.
After playing in Healdton in Week 9, Crescent will wrap up the regular season with a trip to Christian Heritage Academy.
Crescent is currently 1-4 in district games.
