Crescent splits with Dover in opener
Dover put on a 3-point shooting display to earn its third straight win and spoil Crescent’s season opener.
The Lady Longhorns drilled 11 3-pointers Friday en route to a 65-29 road win.
Four of those treys came from Katelyn Harviston, who has lit up the nets since returning from Thanksgiving break.
The junior had three treys and scored 13 points in the first half alone as Dover built up a 34-8 lead.
She added 10 more points in the third quarter and ended her night with 30.
Rylee Buck and Ashley Gamez nailed three 3-pointers apiece.
Gamez scored 13 while Buck added nine.
Karlee Harviston accounted for the team’s other trey and scored 11 on the night.
Crescent struggled to find its offense early and didn’t score in the first quarter.
The Lady Tigers eventually warmed up, but never had a chance to catch up.
They were led by Calen Cox, who scored 11. Kinzie Bell added nine points.
Tigers slow down Dover to grab win
Crescent’s defense put the clamps on Dover to garner a win in its basketball season opener.
Just a week after the Tigers’ football season came to an end, they dealt the Longhorns a 40-27 defeat.
The difference was created in the first and third quarters when Dover scored a combined seven points in those 16 minutes.
The first saw four different Tigers score as they staked an 8-3 lead.
It was 18-16 at halftime before Crescent went on a 13-4 run.
Isaiah Lovett and Jayden Perkins combined for nine points in that quarter.
Crescent just went 2 for 5 from the foul line in the fourth, but Dover couldn’t manage a comeback.
The Longhorns made just 8 of 20 free throws for the game.
Kolten Shaw led Dover with 12 points. The Longhorns dropped to 3-4 with their second straight defeat.
Lovett paced the Tigers with 13.
He made three 3-pointers on the night, two in the second quarter.
Colby Watson and Chism Watson scored six apiece for the Tigers.
Eight different Crescent players scored in the game.
