Crescent notches victory over Hinton
Hunter Wilmoth accounts for all 4 TDs as Tigers improve to 7-1 overall
Crescent had to wait a couple of extra days, but still put together another methodical victory.
The Tigers defeated Hinton 24-6 on Monday to improve to 7-1 entering the season’s final week.
The game was originally scheduled for last Friday, but winter storms knocked out electricity to much of the area and forced the rescheduling of multiple games.
Hunter Wilmoth accounted for four touchdowns as the Tigers improved their District A-3 mark to 4-1.
However, Hinton, with just one win all season and winless in district play, didn’t go away easily.
Seth Spady’s 9-yard touchdown run with 2:20 left in the third quarter brought the Comets within 12-6.
The Tigers answered with a touchdown drive that ended with a 19-yard Wilmoth run less than 90 seconds into the fourth quarter.
That upped the lead to 18-6.
Just over two minutes later, Wilmoth struck again with a 3-yard run to ice the game.
He had connected with Cannon Bowers for touchdown passes in the second quarter.
The first one was from 7 yards on the first play of the quarter and the other a 14-yarder about midway through.
Hinton out-gained the Tigers 234-204 and had possession for 10-plus more minutes than did Crescent.
However, the Tigers managed to keep their guests out of the end zone much of the night.
Bowers had 13 tackles while Tanner Rice and Tayon Johnson added 12 apiece.
Luke Descher added 11 tackles.
Hinton quarterback Levi Taylor completed just one of his six attempts and that was for a 13-yard loss.
That left the Comets to produce solely on the ground.
Tyler Strong was their best producer as he garnered 135 yards on 20 attempts.
Wilmoth countered with 107 yards on 19 rushes.
Johnson added 51 yards on just nine carries.
Wilmoth was also 4 of 5 for 33
Bowers caught three passes overall for 35 yards.
Crescent is now 4-1 in the district with No. 1 Cashion the lone opponent left
A win would put the Ti-gers into a three-way in the loss column with Cashion and Tonkawa.
Tonkawa defeated the Tigers 21-20 a month ago and Cashion beat Tonkawa 42-0 last week.
Since not all teams have played the same amount of district games, district coaches will vote after this week’s games to determine the order of teams entering the playoffs.
